In case you missed Day 1′s post you can catch it here.
Before I get to what I ate today, lets talk coffee for a minute shall we? I love coffee, this is a recent development for me (last 8 years). I’m pretty particular with my coffee, I don’t like bitter coffee, I’m not a huge fan of super dark roasts, and I like decaf just as much as regular. In 2011 I bought myself a Nespresso machine and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I love it so much in fact I recently bought one for my office as well!
One of the biggest challenges doing a detox for me is not having dairy. Oddly enough, I’m not a huge dairy person, I don’t really like cheese (I know you just gasped). I don’t drink milk unless its in a latte (which is rare). I do however, love half and half in my coffee. It doesn’t matter if its hot or iced, I always add half and half, something about the rich & creamy, light mocha color it turns my coffee makes me happy. VERY HAPPY! So when I am required to give up dairy, it almost always means giving up coffee (which makes me sad). I follow several blogs Carrots N Cake and Gabby’s Gluten Free are two of my favorites. Both of these ladies, are Cross Fit fanatics so they talk about and have done paleo based eating plans. Gabby has mentioned adding coconut oil to her coffee in a couple of posts, and I thought it was strange, however, the thought of giving up coffee (even decaf) for 10 days was worth me trying this seemingly odd combination. I gave it a try this morning and its AWESOME! I wont lie, I can taste the coconut flavor a bit, but I only needed 1/2 tsp to get the same rich & creamy taste that my Half and Half usually provides. Give it a try, I think you will like it!
Today’s food mix is Low Carb, Moderate Fat.
Breakfast called for a protein shake. I whipped up 1 cup water, 2 scoops Body Factory Protein Powder, 1 cup spinach, 1 cup frozen berries & 1 tbls hemp hearts.
Protein shakes usually dont hold me over for very long, I much prefer to eat my breakfast. This surprisingly held me over for about 3 hours, but then I was starving. Of course, I was out on appointments and didnt have a snack with me, so I grabbed about 8-9 pecan halves, and that helped get me through until I got back to the office to prepare a proper lunch!
Lunch – I typically eat the same things for lunch, and today wasn’t much different from the norm.
I roasted some broccoli in our toaster oven at work, added 5.5oz ground turkey and copped up an egg. Sounds random I know but it was super yummy!
I was hungrier than expected today, so at 3:30 I whipped up my afternoon snack (totally forgot to take a picture of it) but it was 1/4 cup gluten free oats, 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk & 1 scoop vegan protein powder. I’m hoping that will hold me over and get my through tonight’s workout.
Tuesday nights are spin nights…HOORAY! I know I’ve mentioned how much I love my gym in quite a few posts, but one of the many reasons are the people who work there. I’ve never belonged to a gym with such a great sense of community. The group fitness manager is also one of the most sought after instructors at my gym and I literally take as many spin classes as I can from her (dont laugh but Ive been know to take a vacation day mid week so I can take a class). She only teaches 1 evening spin class, Tuesday nights which pretty much means I dont make plans Tuesday nights..ever! Seriously that is how AWESOME it is, she is inspiring, keeps you moving when you want to stop, has the right mix of sarcasm, and has one of the most caring hearts I know. You can tell she loves her job and what she does and that comes through in everything she does! Make no mistake, its also one of my most challenging workouts of the week, I leave class with nothing left to give, which I love!
I get home pretty late on Tuesday’s so I try to put together something quick and light.
Dinner tonight was a big salad made with baby lettuce, spinach, romaine, red pepper, cucumber, tomato, 1/4 cup edamame, 3oz grilled chicken & 1tbls dressing.
Super satisfying and I love the flavor combination of all the veggies!
Wish me luck on Day 3′s adventure – all day meeting tomorrow, with cake, ice cream, muffins, and dinner with a friend tomorrow night. Ive got my lunch packed for tomorrow (its the same thing I ate for dinner tonight). Now I just need to keep my head right and stay focused on healthy eating.
