So I knew today was going to be a challenge for me. I had a crazy schedule today with all day meetings. We have meetings once a month and they are always a binge fest of unhealthy foods. On top of that I had made plans to meet up with a friend after work that I hadnt seen in a couple of months and knew I was going to have a glass of wine this evening.
Today’s eating plan was Moderate Carb, Moderate Fat, I was super excited for breakfast because the plan called for one of my favorite breakfasts:
I love oatmeal, its satisfying and there are so many variations you can make to it that it just never gets old to me. This morning’s oatmeal was
1/2 c gluten free oats, 1 c hot water, 3 tbls egg whites, dash of cinnamon cooked in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes topped with 1 cup blueberries.
Adding egg whites to oatmeal ups the protein factor and helps keep you satisfied longer..so YUMMY!
I was pretty much going the rest of the day. Snack was handful of mixed nuts with a few slices of pear. I prepared my lunch last night when I made dinner, so while everyone else ate their white rice teriyaki bowls, I ate a rather large healthy vegetable packed salad!
After lunch, everyone in the office indulged on flourless chocolate cake with ice cream, caramel and whipped cream to celebrate the office birthdays. I managed to avoid temptation and walked away, not 1 bite taken – SCORE for me! 1 healthy choice at time!
I was hungry a few hours later, so about 3:30 I whipped up 1 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk, 1 scoop vegan protein powder, 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder in a shaker cup with some ice and drank that for my snack.
So when I arrived at Flemings to meet my friend for a drink, I had prepared to order a glass of wine (yes I was breaking plan but I was planning to use it as my carb for the night). What I didn’t prepare for were unhealthy choices for appetizers, I let him order, and he ordered the Cedar Roasted Mushroom & Artichoke Flatbread and Calimari. I ate 6 pieces of calamari and a piece of the flatbread. It wasn’t much and I didn’t feel as if I overindulged, the night reflected not around food but around good conversation and catching up.
When I came home tonight I looked up the nutrition information on what I ate thinking I had totally blown my calories for the day. BUT…because I had made healthy choices throughout the day, I didnt exceed my daily calorie allotment even with the wine! (SCORE).
I know I shouldn’t be too happy, I did technically deviate from the plan, but I cant help feeling a bit of satisfaction for not overindulging the entire day like I typically would have. This day could easily have turned into a disaster, but all the small healthy choices I made throughout the day allowed me a little enjoyment tonight at dinner.
Back to plan tomorrow, and no more deviations!

Wendie! This is Perfect!! I believe the secret to being fit is moderation and portion control. Congrats on the self-control! Way to keep your eye on the prize.
